Nourish

How do we transform our relationship to food
and the food system?

Poses the
thought-provoking
question:
“What’s the story
of your food?”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Nourish initiative plays a vital role in opening a meaningful conversation about food, health and sustainability across every sector of society. With its unique blend of media and learning, Nourish has served more than 20 million people and seeded an enduring network of good food advocates. As one teacher shared:

“Nourish has deeply affected my students’ understanding of the food system. They have become more aware of where our food comes from and how it impacts our bodies and world. Because of Nourish, my students realize that they do have choices and can be part of this movement to advocate for good food and a healthy food system.”

The Nourish collection of resources—PBS special, website hub, short films, curriculum, family kit, games, professional learning workshops—provide an unmatched toolkit for increasing food literacy and building healthy communities.

Nourish connects the dots between a healthy food system and making healthy food choices; between our health and the health of the planet. These are keys to a more food literate society.
— Dr. Mary Gale Smith, University of British Columbia

Nourish is committed to a long-term vision of “food literacy for all.” This means preparing teachers, students, parents, and other community members to reimagine their relationship to food and the food system. To achieve this vision, we plan to dramatically increase access to our library of Nourish resources and further grow the capabilities of food literacy practitioners.
